This week the Ladybirds have been learning about growing and as part of this topic they learned the song and actions for ‘Digging the Garden’. They learnt how a video can be recorded using the class camera and watched the video back on the computer. I hope you can agree their performance is fantastic!
Outside the children have been fantastic helpers, weeding the unwanted plants, looking after the cabbages and observing the new Spring flowers. Thank you to Gracie’s Nana who brought in lupins for us to plant too. With all the digging there has been a great interest in observing the worms so next week we are going to have our own wormery inside and learn more about the importance of worms for plants. We also received a letter from Jack (in the Beanstalk) – it got lost on route to the Giant’s castle – so the children wrote their own letters to tell Jack where he could get more magic beans from … our school! Jack replied to the letters saying thank you and sent us our own beans to grow.
The children have also enjoyed playing their own race track game using the characters from the Gruffalo, recognising numbers to 20. Inside the children planted their own cress seeds and as part of the literacy activity the children then wrote instructions for growing cress.
Finally, the children have also been planning, designing and making their own garden using different media and materials. Using the class camera they have learnt how to take a picture of their garden. Can they spot their garden below?
