Following on from our investigations at St Alban’s, Y6 researched the story of Windy Nook hero, Royal Marine, John Brown King. Famously, he was one of the first men to fire a shot in anger in the First World War, engaging the German mine layer Konigin Luise.

Unfortunately for John his ship HMS Amphion was sunk by a German mine and he was severely injured, dying of his wounds on 23rd August 1914.

Our second task was going online to the Commonwealth War Grave Commission website and checking out the servicemen we recorded at the church. Look out for our classroom exhibition.
