As the Tour of Britain cycling event departed from Gateshead Quayside, a group of Windy Nook’s children were lucky enough to be invited as spectators.
We got a close look at some of the state-of-the-art bikes, met members of the crews and took our front-row places for the start of the race. This was a great chance to see our former pupil, Sam, take part in a peloton, leading the elite cyclists on their way.
After the cyclists had embarked on their 106-mile journey, the children were able to enjoy zumba, watch a steel-drum band, meet members of the Royal Navy and even do some cycling of their own – albeit on exercise bikes!
