Farewell, Bluebells

It is with a heavy heart that we enjoy our last day in Bluebells today and that I say goodbye to the school. It has been an absolute privilege to teach a class of the most wonderful children. Whilst there are always little dramas in the classroom, the children of Bluebells have been shining examples of how to support others and treat others with respect. They champion each other, cheer for others’ successes and love to pick each other up when they are down.

This year, your children have advanced their mathematical understanding. They have grown aware of global issues such as deforestation and the war in Ukraine. They have learned about great Anglo Saxon kings and kingdoms, examined the strength of Boudicca and appreciated why the Romans came to Britain and the effect they had. They have studied portraits, painted in watercolours, sketched and built. They have made their own sandwiches and learned how to keep their bodies and minds healthy.

In English, children have been absorbed by a range of stories and linked these to social issues. They understand why fair trade is important and learned this through the tale of a little girl on a tea plantation. They have studied the Mysteries of Harris Burdick’s missing stories and explored other great texts such as The Worst Witch, Hundred Mile an Hour Dog and Escape to Pompeii.

In class, children have learned how to resolve arguments and that being safe is their right – as is being free to believe what they want to believe and that others have the freedom of their own beliefs. They have also learned that they have responsibilities. To respect others and treat others fairly.

Thank you again for all your support and kindness. I will certainly miss working with such a wonderful group on young people and supportive parents. Thank you for the gifts and cards, the messages mean a great deal.

Signing off,

Mr. Newman
