Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy!

We have been very busy in our outdoor area recently. We have looked at bulbs this week and why we plant bulbs in Autumn, the children then went outside in groups and planted bulbs in the planters using trowels.

In our outdoor learning sessions in Reception, the children have been learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy. He uses natural resources to create his art and uses lots of different shapes when creating his sculptures mostly circles, spirals and lines. After learning about this and looking at Andy Goldsworthy’s art for inspiration the children in Ladybirds and Dragonflies went outside to collect their own natural resources, they took there time and chose resources that they felt would work best with their artwork. After collecting, the children found their own space and began to create their own pieces inspired by Goldsworthy’s art.

In another session, the children went collecting again and focused on leaves, we worked as a team to create a larger scale piece of art. The children chose to make their art in the shape of circles and spirals. The children were so proud of all their efforts and look forward to creating more Andy Goldsworthy inspired art in the upcoming weeks!
