Dear parents / carers
As you are aware, we have had a number of classes have to shut over the last 2 weeks. This has been due to isolated cases in each class rather than an outbreak in school.
A letter from the director of public health for Gateshead has been posted on the website today, where she asks parents to support schools in moving forward with the new rules next week. The staff of Windy Nook have worked tirelessly during the pandemic and deserve to spend the holidays with their families and friends and not in isolation, as do you and your families. I would therefore ask if your child has any symptoms (including colds and runny noses, which seems to be how many of our cases are presenting themselves) you keep them at home.
The one-way system will still operate in school and we would ask parents to keep wearing face masks whilst they are on the school site until the end of term.
Transition / meet your new teacher
Transition day will still happen for those staff and children who are in school. The classes will be held outside so that the risk of transmission will be minimised. Please make sure your child has had sun cream and has a sun hat for Monday as the forecast is looking good.
Live lessons
There will be no live lessons on Monday morning as staff will be with their new classes, however, work will still be set for the children to complete that day.
Mrs. Preece will deliver a live lesson to the new Nightingales class on Monday morning as they will all be self- isolating.
Miss. Thompson will introduce herself during a live lesson on Monday afternoon to those pupils who are self- isolating but will be in the new Robins class.
As Miss. Byrne can’t be with us on Monday, she has already introduced herself to the class earlier this week via video call.
Mrs. Hope will be updating Google classroom on Wednesday and Thursday next week so live lessons will finish for all pupils on Tuesday 20th July.
I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of the staff and governors to thank you for your support during which has been a very difficult year. We look forward to school looking more ‘normal’ in September.
Many thanks
Mrs. L. Forrest (Headteacher)
