Dear parents / carers

The government road map will see the lifting of restrictions across the country on the 19th July. They appear to have been unaware that some schools will still be open after that date and have therefore not taken this into account .within their guidelines for schools.

The Local Authority, in consultation with Public Health, have advised Gateshead schools not to change any of their procedures with regards to COVID for the last week of term. Updated risk assessments will have not been shared with and agreed by the unions at this point. Therefore, bubbles will remain in school for the final week of term, as will the need for facemasks, staggered start and end times and the one-way system around school.

In September, however, it is expected that schools will return to normal procedures and below is a link to the government’s advice for parents and carers with regards to school procedures after Step 4.

In September we will re-open the back gate into school, however, the one way system will remain in place. We would ask if you are using the back gate you walk down the steps (unless you have a buggy/pram) and join the flow of traffic and then walk back up the curled path. . There will be a member of staff on the back gate and the two front gates. The gates will be open from 8:40 at which point parents and carers can drop off or walk their children round the school and straight into their classroom. The classroom door will be open between 8:45 and 9am to allow parents to stagger the drop off times for pupils. This hopefully will ease parking congestion at the front of school. As a member of staff will be in the classroom from 8:45, we would ask that older children are allowed to walk into their classes without an adult. This will help reduce the number of adults on site at any one time.

Finally, the council has again made arrangements to provide vouchers to children eligible for means tested free school meals over the forthcoming summer holidays. The voucher value is the same as the national arrangement and used previously in Gateshead i.e. £15 per child per week. The vouchers will cover the school holiday period w/c Monday 23 July 2021 to w/e Friday 3 September 2021. Please make sure that the school office has the correct email address for you so that the vouchers can be sent directly to you.

Many thanks for your cooperation with this

Mrs. Lucie Forrest
