Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this finds you all safe and well; enjoying the end of your summer break.

I am writing to you to share some of the arrangements for the forthcoming academic year.

These have been written taking into consideration parents’ preferences, staff views and what as leaders we feel has worked well.

As you are aware, national restrictions lifted during the summer break. However, following the advice from the Local Authority, we are going to still take some cautious steps in the first few weeks back.

Return to school

Children need to return to school on Tuesday 7th September. (Unless they have been given a specific start date and time – Early Years pupils). All pupils need to wear full school uniform, with long hair tied back. Please remember leggings are only part of our PE uniform, not school uniform. We operate a no jewellery policy so any child with earrings will not be allowed to participate in playtimes or PE activities.

What time does school start and finish?

Reception (including 30hour Nursery children) through to Year 6 will have the same school day.

The school day starts at 9:00am and finishes at 3:15pm.

However, we will operate a soft opening. This means your child can enter their classroom any time between 8:45 – 9:00am. Staff will be there to welcome your child into the classroom and there will be activities to keep your child busy whilst everyone arrives. Doors will be shut at 9am prompt so that lessons can begin and anyone arriving at school after this time will need to go to the main office where they will receive a late mark. Teaching staff have been told not to let any child in through the classroom door after 9am as teaching will have started so please do not expect them to do so.

Morning nursery is 8:45am – 11:45am. Afternoon Nursery is 12:15-3:15.

Which gate do I use?

All 3 main gates will be open from 8:45-9am. Staff will be on the gates from these times. This will allow parents, if they wish to do so, to drop off their children at the gates safe in the knowledge they cannot leave the site. We are not operating the one way system round school now that the back gate is open, however, we would ask that parents do not hang around on site and drop  their children off quickly so that we can secure the site by 9:05.

Face coverings in school

The Local Authority are recommending that parents still wear face masks on site, however, as this is not mandatory we are  leaving it up to personal preference. Staff will still need to wear face coverings in communal areas in school and at the present time we have been advised that parents cannot come into school. If you wish to speak with the class teacher please ring the main office to make an appointment.

Equipment for school

Children will need a coat and a water bottle daily.

Staff will inform you of your child’s PE day and they can come to school in black leggings, tracksuit bottoms or shorts; a white t shirt and school jumper on that day.

If your child has a packed lunch, they are welcome to bring a packed lunch bag into school (this does not need to be disposable – reusable is fine).

School will provide pencil cases/stationary for the children.

Bubbles in school

We have been advised by the Local Authority that bubbles should remain a part of school life. We have decided to operate bubbles in phases e.g. Early Years, KS1, LKS2, UKS2. This means your child will have lunchtime, playtime and assemblies in these groups.

COVID testing

Anyone who has COVID-19 symptoms, has tested positive for COVID-19 by lateral flow test or by PCR test, or is otherwise required to self-isolate must not attend school. Please let the school office know as soon as possible. Pupils who do test positive will need to self-isolate for 10 days. Pupils will not need to self-isolate if they live in the same household as someone who has tested positive for COVID. If you are unsure please give the school office a ring.

Have a wonderful last week, and I look forward to seeing you all on the 7th September.

Mrs. Lucie Forrest

(Headteacher)
