The Tulips, Bluebells and Snowdrops investigated the pitch of sounds this week, with the help of water, bottles and spoons! This investigation was a comparative test, where we compared the pitch of sounds in different amounts of water.
The children have been learning all about sound – particularly, how sound waves can be different length and how this can affect the pitch.
They carefully measured different amounts of water into a bottle. Tapping the bottle and listening for changes in pitch had to be done so that we could decide whether the amount of air in the bottle was affecting the length of the sound waves.
Everyone collaborated so well, measured accurately and made some excellent, intelligent conclusions.
