KS1 rounded off their ‘King of the Castle’ topic with a DT project.

Their brief was to design a castle strong enough to protect the king! The first part of the process was to research different types of castles and identify the features found on both stone castles and motte & bailey castles. Using this research, the children designed their own castle thinking about which features they wanted to include. They looked at folding techniques and thought about how they were going to secure their towers to their castle. After labelling their design, construction could start. The children put their own individual stamp on their castle making each unique. Finally, the children had to evaluate their design and consider what the strengths of their design were and how they could best strengthen the design next time. Everyone had a fantastic time!
