A Week of Imagination, Independence and Outdoor Learning in Nursery

This week in nursery we have continued exploring the It’s Not a Stick book and theme. Children added to our It’s Not a Stick display through lovely 1‑to‑1 conversations and mark‑making sessions, and outdoors in the sandpit they used a stick to mark make, saying, “It’s not a stick, it’s a pencil!” At the playdough table, children made trees with playdough blossoms and flowers, using sticks to represent the stalks and branches. During maths sessions we played a fun game using giant laminated cookies and chocolate chips, where children rolled a dice and counted the corresponding number of chocolate chips to add to their cookie. We also enjoyed another lovely movement session in the hall, and it has been fantastic to see new children already improving their independence and self‑help skills, especially when taking off and putting on their socks and shoes. We played a Bluey puzzle game on the interactive white board. During outdoor sessions we planted some more sunflower seeds and put them in our greenhouses to grow and into seedlings before we plant them outdoors.
