This half term, our Key Stage 1 children have been developing their basketball skills in PE lessons. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they learned new techniques and improved week by week!
The children have focused on three key skills: dribbling, passing and shooting. They practised dribbling by carefully bouncing the ball while moving, learning how to keep control and stay balanced. Our young athletes showed great determination as they improved their coordination.
In passing activities, the children worked with partners and small groups, practising different types of passes. They learned how to aim carefully and work as a team, making sure everyone had a chance to take part. It was lovely to see such positive encouragement and teamwork throughout the sessions.
When practising shooting, the children aimed at targets and hoops, developing their accuracy and confidence. There were lots of smiles and cheers as baskets were scored! The children showed resilience, continuing to try even when it was tricky at first.
Over the half term, the children have not only built their physical skills but also demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, supporting one another and celebrating each other’s successes.
