Robots, Instructions and Bee‑Bots!

This week, the children were introduced to robots and technology. To begin, they took part in a fun activity where they acted as “robots” themselves. This helped them understand that robots only move when they are given clear and precise instructions. Through this, children practised important skills such as sequencing and recognising how actions lead to outcomes (cause and effect).

We then explored Bee‑Bots. The children looked at how the Bee‑Bot responds when buttons are pressed, noticing how each instruction makes it move, stop, or change direction. They enjoyed predicting what might happen and testing their ideas, developing early problem‑solving skills along the way.

These activities supported children in understanding a fundamental computing concept: technology responds to human input. Throughout the week, children used key vocabulary including robot, instruction, button, and move to talk about their learning.
