We have had another busy and exciting week in nursery. Our children who will be moving to Reception in September had a lovely time visiting their future classes during transition days on Tuesday and Wednesday, where they enjoyed getting to know Mrs Ramanandi, Mrs Cole, Miss Hill and Miss Foster and exploring their new environment. Meanwhile, the children returning to nursery in September enjoyed having the setting to themselves, making the most of riding bikes and scooters. As Thursday was such a windy day, we took the opportunity to make kites. The children planned, designed, made, tested and improved their kites, developing a range of DT skills throughout the process. It was great fun watching them experiment with their ideas and see their creations flying in the wind. In phonological awareness, we focused on the sound ‘c’ and revisited our popular “Pass the Bag Around” game. The children love the repetition, are very confident with the routine, and are becoming skilled at spotting the odd one out as well as explaining their thinking using phrases such as “I agree because…” and “I disagree because…”. The children are also loving checking the progress of our sunflowers and tomato plants, watering them daily and noticing that some sunflowers are now taller than they are. We have continued reading summer-themed books during snack times. We used a letter formation computer programme on the interactive whiteboard. In the maths area the children have been using cubes to measure different sized lines that were chalked onto the tuff tray. We also enjoyed taking part in the school Country Fair. The children came dressed in country-themed clothes or non-uniform, enjoyed buying treats, and some even had their faces painted. It was a wonderful community event and a lovely way to end another busy week in nursery.
