Lower KS2: Exploring the Sounds of the North East

This term, Lower KS2 are exploring the rich musical heritage of the North East through a collection of traditional Geordie folk songs.

This week, the children learned the much-loved North East song ‘Weel May the Keel Row’. They enjoyed learning the melody, singing together and discovering more about the history and traditions connected to the song. ⚓🎶

Through our music learning, the children are developing their understanding of local heritage and culture, while appreciating how music can bring communities together.

Our learning also supports the British Values of Mutual Respect and Tolerance, as the children listen to and appreciate different musical traditions and recognise the importance of preserving and celebrating our shared cultural heritage. Working together to perform the song also encourages Teamwork, Respect and Responsibility.

We are looking forward to continuing our musical journey through the sounds and stories of the North East! 🎵
