As part of our Toy Story History topic, KS1 children became toy historians by bringing in some of their favourite toys from home. They carefully examined the toys, discussing what they were made from and thinking about why different materials are used. This helped them to develop their observation skills and begin to understand how toys can vary in design and purpose.
The following week, the children explored toys from their parents’ and carers’ childhoods, comparing them with modern toys. They noticed similarities and differences and discussed how toys have changed over time. The children also had the exciting opportunity to handle toys from the past, considering how they might have been played with and what life was like for children long ago.
These experiences helped them to develop their understanding of chronology and historical enquiry, and we look forward to continuing our journey through the past.
