This week, the children enjoyed talking about who lives in their home and drawing the special people they live with. They then added their drawings to a house template, creating lovely representations of their families and home life. An adult worked with each child to discuss their drawing and the people who are important to them. All of the completed pictures were combined to make a class book, which has been added to our reading area for the children to enjoy sharing and revisiting with their friends. The children also used an interactive whiteboard game to click and drag facial features into the correct places on a face, helping them to identify and talk about different facial features.
In our maths sessions, we explored repeating patterns in different ways. The children used autumn treasures such as leaves and conkers to create repeating patterns and later listened carefully to make repeating patterns using instrument sounds. We also played a game of snap using cards showing different coloured eyes, helping the children to observe similarities and differences while developing their matching skills.
We continued developing our phonological awareness and speech and language skills by using our bodies to create sound patterns, including clapping, stamping and clicking our tongues, before repeating and extending simple sequences. During our weekly ‘Wiggle Me Into Squiggle’ session, the children continued to develop their early mark-making skills through movement and music, helping to strengthen the foundations needed for later writing.
In our indoor and outdoor construction areas, we added photographs of different types of homes, including mansions, detached houses, semi-detached houses, bungalows, tower blocks and three-storey homes. The children used these images as inspiration when designing and building their own structures.
At our Friday outdoor session, the children planted daffodil, tulip and snowdrop bulbs. These were purchased using the money raised from the tomato plants we grew and sold last term, so thank you to everyone who supported us by buying a plant. The children also enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment through play and experimentation in the messy play areas, providing opportunities to investigate, create and learn together while enjoying the fresh autumn air.
