We have continued settling into our new routine in nursery and the children are becoming increasingly confident and independent each day. This week, everyone drew a picture of themselves to be displayed on our “This Is Me” wall. The children used a photograph of themselves as a reference point and took great care when creating their self-portraits. We will complete a new drawing each term and look back at previous drawings to compare how our drawing skills develop over time.
The children have also been learning how to use the interactive whiteboard and have shown great enthusiasm when exploring this new resource. We continue to develop attention and listening skills through our daily story sessions, and the children are becoming increasingly engaged as they listen, join in with familiar parts and talk about the stories we share together. We have also been practising our counting skills throughout the day by counting how many children are in the line and counting how many children are in each key worker group during snack time.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our singing and dancing sessions in the hall. We have been particularly impressed by how quickly they are learning the routines around changing for these sessions. Many children are now able to take off their shoes and socks independently, place their socks inside their shoes and put their two shoes together to make a pair. This helps us to find everything quickly when it is time to get dressed again and is a wonderful example of growing independence. We are also continuing to develop independence skills when getting dressed for Outdoor Friday, with the children becoming more confident at managing their own clothing and belongings.
Thank you to the families who brought in News Books on Wednesday. The children who had books in nursery thoroughly enjoyed sharing their news with their friends during snack time, and it was lovely to hear them talking about their experiences and special moments from home.
