As part of our ‘Survival of the Fittest’ topic, the children had to understand the concept of time from 5 billion years ago to present day! A very difficult concept indeed, so we all decided to make a human timeline instead of just looking at pictures on a computer screen or printout. We had to use our maths skills to work out a ratio from years to metres. Then we had to measure it out using a trundle metre wheel. The children had information sheets with key events in time on them. It really helped us to understand and appreciate to how little time humans as we know them have lived on our planet…and just how long our planet existed with no life at all.
