What a fantastic trip to Shipley Art Gallery Owls had as part of their Art and Design topic. The children took part in a felt making workshop where they were give lots of facts about how cotton, silk and wool are made and where they come from. They were able to have a feel of each material and used amazing adjectives to describe them. The children were then given the opportunity to make their own felt. This process started off with a lump of brightly coloured wool which they needed to carefully pull apart. Then they added different coloured wool and placed some mesh and soapy water over the top. Using their hands they carefully rubbed the mess to help all the fibres come together. After that the wool was rinsed and gently squeezed and left to dry. Watch this space for what the children do with their felt!
