This Friday 8th May offers the chance to organise something really special to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, marking the end of the war in Europe 75 years ago.

Why not have a street party with your neighbours, a garden party with your family that you live with or an afternoon tea party inside. Below is some website for you to watch and find out what VE Day is as well as some fun activities of all ages to do.

  • Write a diary entry of what it must have been like to live through the war as a soldier in the trenches, flying a spitfire aircraft, being held captive in a prisoner of war camp, a wife at home looking after the children and family, an evacuated child leaving their family to live with another family in the country or on VE day when the war had ended.
  • Draw a street party of everyone celebrating VE day.
  • Create some bunting to put up around your garden or in your house.

  • Make a Union Jack flag and a crown for your street party.

The BBC are encouraging all those taking part to undertake the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm on the 8th May, from the safety of your own home by standing up and raise a glass of refreshment of their choice and undertake the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,” using this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.

Enjoy your day of celebrations.

Take care and stay safe.

Please remember that it’s parents/carers who need to send in the photographs and with permission as well.
