Dear parents / carers
During lockdown, the Local Authority have provided Free School Meals to all children attending school alongside the government’s Free School Meal vouchers for those eligible families.
From 8th June this will no longer be the case.
Children who are attending school from this date and are entitled to Universal Infant free school meals, i.e. those children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, will receive a packed lunch prepared by our kitchen staff free of charge.
Children attending school who are entitled to Benefits Tested free school meals will also receive a school packed lunch free of charge. The government free school meal vouchers will stop for all children attending school.
Nursery aged pupils will need to bring their own packed lunch if they are staying in school for the full day.
Pupils who usually pay for school meals can pay for a packed lunch in the usual way i.e. using SIMS pay or alternatively bring their own packed lunch to school. The cost of a week’s worth of school meals is £12.50 i.e. £2:50 a day.
There will be no hot meals provided at this time, although the packed lunch may include a freshly baked hot product.
If you have any queries about this please do not hesitate to get in touch either by emailing the school on windynookprimaryschool@gateshead.gov.uk or via the school phone number.
All parents whose children are returning to school on 8th June will receive a phone call from school this week identifying start and finish times, your child’s class teacher and the classroom they will be taught in.
Many thanks
Lucie Forrest
