Hope you all had a lovely weekend. It has been great looking at some of the ways people celebrated VE Day on Friday. We would love to see any other photos of the ways you celebrated! Article 24: You have the right to the best health care possible, safe water to drink, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help you stay well.
Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education. You should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level you can.
LITERACY: Complete 1 writing caption from the caption booklet. – Post on tapestry so that we can support and guide future writing individually.
Parent tips: Try and sit your child at a table to write. Use a pencil. Talk about the picture, make us stories around the picture. Remember all children need to be able to write 3 letter words. Other words may be spelt phonetically (therefore not correct). If it is a good attempt, for example, porridge = porij, then try to avoid correcting. This term we are really pushing handwriting and expect children to use their best writing, using tall letter, short letters and try to sit letter on the line.

Look at the picture and read the story starter. Talk through the questions with your child or ask them questions of your own. Can they write a sentence about the picture, or create their own story about it?

Mathematics:
(20 mins) Daily – Count reliably with numbers from one to 20 (forwards and backwards). Quick fire 1 more than 1 less than. (1 more than 3, 1 less than 6.)

• Explain that doubling something is when you have 2 of the same amount. Tell your child you will make double 1, then demonstrate putting the 1 numicon tile on paper and drawing round it. Place them next to each other. How many do you have now? So double 1=2. Repeat for all the tiles. Can they make all the numbers up to 20? Do they notice a pattern? Encourage the use of the language: Add, addition, double, half, total, equals, odd and even.
• CHALLENGE Can your child make doubles with only the odd numbers? What do they notice? Can they make doubles with only even numbers? What do they notice? Extension: make cards to show 1st amount, then the double on the back.
• Can you roll a dice, what number did you roll? Can you find the numicon tile which represents double that number?
