Use the book to create a collection of rhyming words. Play word rhyme tennis with a grown up. Can you think of other words that rhyme with the words you have found? Remember you can make up nonsense words. For example, Smed, red, bed, head, ted. You may want to write a list of your rhyming words.

Mathematics:
(20 mins) Daily count up to a given number (up to 30). Count back from 20. Quick fire 1 more than 1 less than. (1 more than 3, 1 less than 6.)

• This is a beautiful old classic idea, and definitely one of the simplest and best ways of exploring symmetry. Have large pieces of paper that are folded in half. The idea is that you only paint on one side of the paper. You can use different loose parts dipped in paint to create patterns and textures. Then you fold over the paper, and the image prints symmetrically on the other side.
Once again, the next step is to try to paint or print half of something on one side of the paper. It could be half a face, or the classic – half a butterfly! Then fold it over, and hey presto! You have a spectacular symmetrical image.

• This week’s Arty activity -Junk modelling – Junk modelling is now formally known as ‘recyclable materials’ modelling! I would like you to get your grown up to have a look in the recycling bin to see what you can find to make any insect you like. Here are some lovely pictures I found on the internet to give you some ideas. What materials will you use for the different parts of your insect? How will you join them together?
