Back to the Stone Age!

This week, Year 3/4 have been learning about the Stone Age. We have been reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ and have done lots of work inspired by the story and the people of the Stone Age.

First, the group made a paper collage of Stonehenge. They used colours that would create a sunrise effect, because Stonehenge is linked to the Summer Solstice.

Next, everyone went outside to build Stone-Age houses. They searched the grounds of the school to find building materials. Once everyone settled in a sheltered part of the field, they used sticks, twigs, grass and stones to build their houses – just like the prehistoric house makers would have.

Lastly, the children used pastels to create cave art. They used colours such as yellow, orange and brown to give the look of rocks. Some people made hand prints, while others depicted animals and weapons.

Take a look at our amazing work. It’ll make you say “Yabba-dabba-doo!”
