Today, Bluebells learned about fractions by working with some ‘concrete’ materials to find unit fractions of an amount. They worked in groups to sort a variety of objects including dogs, flowers, books and straws! They were asked to find 1/5, 1/4, 1/3, 1/7 or 1/2 of different amounts.
Bluebells understood that to find 1/3 of an amount – we just separate the amount into 3 equal groups. To find 1/4 of an amount, 4 equal groups. 1/5 of an amount, 5 equal groups, and so on.
Ava said, “I thought it was a fun lesson!” Ethan said, “I thought it was a difficult lesson but in the end we all got it.”
