Children in LKS2 joined children and schools from across the country in a Live Lesson from BBC’s Winterwatch. The lesson theme of classifying animals fit perfectly with our current science topic looking at animals and living things.
In school, children followed along with the live video and took part in a range of tasks including labelling the parts of a bird, using bar charts to count birds, identifying birds and classifying other animals. In the afternoon, children did a reading comprehension about The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch initiative, which asks people at home to count birds in their garden, to help keep a national record of bird populations. At home, children were invited to watch the lesson and also complete a reading comprehension task, as well as a Purple Mash task (both available on Google Classroom).
