This week, children in Bluebells, Snowdrops and Tulips have been conducting an enquiry into history. They investigated this question: were the Vikings all bad?
Each class studied sources of evidence – both primary and secondary – to help them come to a conclusion. The children examined Viking artefacts, such as a bone needle, a wooden cup and gaming pieces. We decided that this showed they weren’t all bad, as they must have used intelligence and skill to make these things. Each class also sorted pictures of primary sources and read extracts from sources such as the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle – a lot of which painted the Vikings in a very negative light!
It was great to see the children developing analytical skills, making statements about history and then backing these up with evidence.
