What a fantastic opportunities Owls had to visit Shipley Art Gallery. The children were able to find out more information about Antony Gormley the artist who designed the Angel of the North. They had the opportunity to see his pro-type model of the angel in the gallery. Their visit included trying to draw the angel without looking at their paper and just at the model, then to try and draw it using their elbow or wrists. They were then shown a variety of images of different angels for them to look at and discuss. The children were given lots more information about the sculpture and how it has 20 metres of concrete below it to keep it upright. Their final task was to work as a team to create their own model of the angel with the task of it being able to stand tall and not fall over. The children and adults all had a fantastic time.
