Baby Goes to Market

This week, we have focused on the story of Baby Goes to Market. The story incorporates early mathematical skills as well as giving a little insight into Nigerian culture. The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up in traditional African clothing and acting out the story. We produced some beautiful African patterns by using 3-D shapes to print some repeating patterns. We also produced some African patterns by using a PurpleMash program on the computer. During our maths sessions this week we voted for our favourite fruit by placing a Duplo brick next to the fruit that we liked the best. We talked about which Duplo towers were the tallest and shortest and how that linked to the most popular and the least popular fruit.

We have participated in some road safety activities. While outdoors, we used reception’s yard to practice crossing the road safely. We had great fun taking turns to be a lollipop person and pretending to be traffic! We also made our own stop signs.
