UKS2 Future Carpenters and Joiners

For DT this week, the children in year 5 and 6 learnt about different types of joints and the pros and cons for each. They measured 4 pieces of wood at 6cm and then practiced using junior hacksaws to saw each individual piece. They used these to create 2 different butt joints: one simple and one with a triangular support. Next week, they are going to test the strength of each joint by breaking them apart to see which joint takes the most force.
