This afternoon in Dragonflies we braved the weather and headed out for an afternoon of outdoor learning. We began the afternoon being scientists and observed what happens to a pine cone when it is left to soak in coldĀ water. We let the cone sit in the water while we went outdoors then checked it again when we returned. We discovered the pine cone had closed all its scales tight shut to protect the seeds from the cold.

We had so much fun up on our big field where we made tiny snowmen and spotted lots of squirrels footprints in the snow. Before we returned to our classroom we all found a stick to write our names in the snow. We finished off our busy afternoon with some warming hot chocolate.
