Dear Parent/Carer,
We have a vacancy for a parent governor on the Governing Body of Windy Nook Primary School.
The successful candidate will be expected to attend governors’ meetings each term (usually 2). These are held in the evening, although occasionally governors may be called upon to undertake activities during the school day. The term of office for this role is 4 years.
A background in education is not necessary however an effective school governor is someone who:
- cares about improving children’s educational achievement;
- wants to work as part of a team and can value the contribution made by different people;
- is willing to listen, learn, be supportive and ask questions;
- has a feel for what is important to people;
- has an awareness of parents’ needs and concerns;
- has enthusiasm;
- can commit their time and energy.
If you are interested in being nominated for the parent governor post a nomination form can be collected from the school office or requested by e mail. Nominations for candidates for the vacant post should be returned to school by 12 noon on Monday 31st January. No nominations will be accepted after this date. Parents who have previously been elected as parent governors are eligible to stand again for a further term of office. This is a really exciting opportunity to become involved in developing the strategic direction of the school.
Only parents/guardians of children registered at the school are eligible to forward their name as a candidate for the election and/or vote in the election itself. If there is more than one nomination elections will be held. The headteacher will act as the Returning Officer and make the necessary arrangement for a secret ballot in the school. Ballot forms will be sent to you if an election is to be held and the date of the election made known on the forms. All eligible parents/guardians will receive one ballot paper each. The failure on the part of any parent/guardian to receive either notice of the election or a ballot paper shall not invalidate the procedures of the election.
Please Note: (i) there are some circumstances that disqualify an individual from serving as a school governor (eligibility information is available from the Governor Support Service);
(ii) appointment to the post is subject to Disclosure and Barring Service clearance
(iii) free training is available to support you in your new role.
Gateshead Governors are committed to promoting the welfare of all pupils.
For further information please contact Mrs. Forrest or the Governor Support Service by email to GabrielleMains@Gateshead.gov.uk if you wish to discuss what is involved or would like more details.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Wiper
