This week, Tulips, Bluebells and Snowdrops have been using the art technique of pointillism, to create a portrait. The children studied the work of various artists from the pointillist movement, including Georges Seurat. It was the art of Seurat that children used to create a portrait from his 1889 work ‘La Parade.’
The three classes used felt-tip pens to create hundreds of dots, in a range of colours, to produce their picture. A lot of patience was needed, as well as good planning. We studied the painting and looked for where shading was needed, as well as how to create the effect of light.
