This term, Lower Key Stage 2 have been learning an 800-year-old song called ‘Sumer Is Icumen In’ which translates as ‘Summer Is Coming.’ It is sung in Middle English and is the oldest song in the English language.
The children have done a marvellous job to learn the words, pitch, rhythm and tempo of the song. They have practised such skills as call and response, singing in a round and singing an accompaniment.
Because the ‘Sumer Is Icumen In’ at Windy Nook, we thought we’d go outside and sing the song in a 3-part round. The classes were amazing at singing their part loudly and in time.
