Prior to our visit to Beamish after half term, the children in year 5 were lucky enough to have a visitor from Beamish come into school today to give them an introduction into what they will be learning about. The children learnt about how the average temperature in the UK has differed looking right back to the 1800s and could see how we have experienced out hottest temperatures in the most recent years. The expert from Beamish then gave the children a brief history of why the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased, including looking at local coal mining. The children really enjoyed looking at some historical artefacts and pictures and have learnt a lot in preparation for their visit.
