Last week, all KS1 classes took part in a DT food technology project that required the children to make a fruit salad. The children were given a brief by ‘Kathy from Asda Café’ to prepare a fruit salad that had 5 different fruits and showcased practical skills such as chopping, peeling, grating and slicing. First, the children researched different fruit salads and descriptively annotated them. Then, the children taste tested a variety of fruit to decide which fruits would be suitable for their fruit salad. Using their prior research, the children made fruit salads and practised several skills required for preparing fruit. The end products looked fantastic! Finally, the children evaluate their fruit salad and reflected upon which skills they were competent at or needed future improvement. Great effort KS1!
