This half term, children in Year 5 and 6 have been listening and responding to music from Gustav Holst. To fit in with our ‘Space’ theme, children were immersed in Holst’s seven-movement orchestral suite, each dedicated to one of seven planets. After discussing the differences between the movements and having children describe timbre and tempo, children performed their own ‘Planet’ composition based on either Mars or Venus. Children also drew images to describe what Holst’s interpretation of Mars and Venus inspired in their minds.
