This week, Lower Key Stage 2 have been investigating how sound travels. The children planned how to make their investigation a fair test. They considered the variables, made predictions and then carried out their investigation using string telephones.
Each class was investigating wave compression – where particles collide with other particles and transfer the sound through vibrations. We discovered that keeping the strings taut was very important to allow the sound to travel. Everyone carried out a fair test by also ensuring they spoke into the same part of the telephone and kept the same distance apart at all times.
