We have continued to focus on the topic of Winter. One of the stories that we are reading at the moment is called Here Comes Jack Frost and part of the story mentions the interesting patterns that frost forms on windows. We have been very interested in these patterns and although we didn’t find any on our windows we found some beautiful ones in our outdoor area as well as thick ice which had formed in various areas in our garden. Some of us enjoyed experimenting with tools to break the ice and free some of our equipment that was trapped within the ice! Some of us painted pictures of ice patterns and snowy scenes. We produced pictures of Winter clothing on the interactive white board. We made some playdough and purposely didn’t add any colouring so that it resembled snow/ice, adding some silver glitter to make it shimmer.
For maths we have focussed on repeating patterns using materials from inside and outdoors. We also used our bodies to make actions to complete repeating patterns. As part of physical development and self-care we practised washing our hands and talked about why it is important to our health. We also participated in our weekly Squiggle While You wiggle session.
For our Friday outdoor session we explored the school grounds and looked at snow, ice and frost through magnifying glasses. We discovered that most of the snow, ice and frost had melted by the afternoon so we had to search hard to find some.
