Windy Nook celebrated a fun-packed World Book Day last Thursday, with the entire school taking part in a wide range of activities to cheer-on everything reading. All children received free books thanks to Mr. Atkinson from WHSmith, who kindly supplied these for us. In Key Stage 1 and 2, children discussed and swapped books so that they had the opportunity to learn about other stories that their classmates love. Classes also decorated their doors with the theme of a much-loved book.
In Key Stage 1, parents and carers were welcomed into school to take part in an assembly and reading session. They enjoyed a cosily laid out hall to share books with children, who loved having more adults around to interact with. Thank you to all those adults who took the time to join us. Also thanks to our fantastic School Council who helped to read with the children.
In Key Stage 2, children swapped teachers for part of the morning! Their new teacher read one of their favourite stories and then set a great poetry task with children who seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Later in the morning, children took part in the BBC Live Lesson which came with a series of bookish activities.
Well done to all the children across school who dressed up and thank you to the adults who helped to organise some fantastic costumes. Some particularly excellent ones were awarded with a certificate in our Windy Winners assembly at the end of the day.
We hope children enjoyed the day are feel inspired to delve into to some more reading.
