Celebrating What Makes Us Unique In Nursery

This week, the children have continued to settle beautifully into the nursery routine, growing in confidence and familiarity with their environment. Our topic for this half term is Ourselves and we’ve been exploring what makes each of us unique. The children enjoyed using mirrors to observe their facial features closely, sparking lots of curiosity and conversation. They then selected appropriate colours to paint their own self-portraits, showing wonderful creativity and attention to detail. Through group discussions and creative activities, we celebrated our differences talking about hair colour, skin tones, and other physical features helping the children to appreciate and respect the diversity within our nursery community. We also had lots of fun with playdough, using materials like wool, googly eyes, and matchsticks to create faces and explore different features. These activities helped the children develop fine motor skills while encouraging self-expression and imagination. At snack time, we shared stories about making friends and starting nursery, which helped the children feel more connected and supported in their new environment. Outdoors, the children explored the school grounds, enjoying fresh air and nature. A highlight of the week was picking apples from our trees, which we then enjoyed together at snack time.
