Learning About Ourselves: From Portraits to Planting

This week, we continued our topic of “Ourselves.” The children explored their own identities through a range of creative and sensory activities. Using full-length photographs as a guide, they carefully drew self-portraits with pencils, which are now proudly displayed on our “This is Me” wall to celebrate each child’s individuality. In a separate activity, the children used the paint tool on the interactive whiteboard to fill in an outline of a body, creating colourful digital representations of themselves.

Building on last week’s playdough activity, where the children made models of themselves, we added bodies and limbs using lolly sticks to bring their creations to life. We also talked about how to keep our bodies healthy, and the children shared thoughtful ideas such as eating fruit, brushing teeth, and getting plenty of sleep. To support these discussions, we planted spinach seeds in pots and placed them in our brand-new greenhouse—which the children helped to build!

On Friday, we embraced the outdoors with messy sensory play, enjoying the digging area, mud kitchen, and water area. It’s been a wonderful week of learning, creativity, and fun as we continue to explore what makes each of us special
