This week in nursery the children enjoyed a range of spring‑themed learning experiences. In maths they explored and developed early movement pattern understanding through gross motor actions, body awareness, and spatial reasoning. They created simple repeating patterns using actions, and outdoors they loved playing pattern hopscotch, using colours instead of numbers to recognise and continue patterns in a playful, active way.
In phonological awareness we played a game called Silly Spring Soup, which encouraged the children to tune into and identify initial sounds in words. They joined in brilliantly with exaggerated speech patterns, rhythms, and repeated sounds, helping them build early listening and sound‑discrimination skills.
The children also began making their Easter cards. They selected their own card colour and demonstrated confident DT skills by folding the card independently. They made yellow fingerprints to represent Easter chicks and new spring growth, and once these had dried, they carefully added eyes, a beak, and legs to complete their designs.
At the playdough table we talked about new life and spring changes. The children made playdough eggs and practised placing them into ten frames, combining imaginative play with early maths concepts such as counting, matching, and spatial awareness.
For Golden Time on Friday we watched The Smeds and the Smoos and experimented with paint during our outdoor session. We mixed blue and red to make different shades of purple.
