In KS1 this week, the children have been investigating the exciting world of materials! They enjoyed sorting everyday objects into groups based on what they are made from, such as wood, plastic, metal, and fabric.
As part of their learning, the children talked about the properties of different materials – for example, whether something is hard or soft, shiny or dull, waterproof or flexible. They then thought carefully about why objects are made from certain materials, making brilliant links between an object’s job and the material chosen to make it.
This hands‑on learning encouraged lots of discussion, curiosity and great scientific vocabulary. You could support this at home by talking about objects you use every day and asking questions like, “What is this made from?” or “Why do you think that material was chosen?” 🌍✨
