This week, the children have been engaged in a range of exciting and purposeful activities across all areas of learning. In the writing area, they created transport-themed collages using a variety of materials, showing great creativity and developing their fine motor skills. In maths, the children explored number bonds to 5 using Numicon pieces, helping to strengthen their understanding of early number relationships. In phonological awareness sessions, they played a game of “Pass the Bag,” focusing on the ‘g’ sound. The children also enjoyed identifying “odd ones out” by spotting objects that did not begin with the target sound, further developing their listening and sound discrimination skills. At snack time, we have subtly introduced our upcoming summer topic by sharing and reading a range of summer-themed books, sparking curiosity and conversation about the season. Outdoors, they continued their mathematical learning by using toy vehicles to follow chalked and numbered lines in a tuff tray, carefully matching numbers to corresponding dot formations. The children worked collaboratively to build a large train using construction equipment, encouraging teamwork and imaginative play, adding a select amount of seats for friends to sit on. This practical activity supported counting skills and number recognition in a fun, hands-on way. During computing time, the children used a programme designed to support letter formation, helping to develop their early writing skills. Additionally, the children have continued to take responsibility for caring for our plants. They have been watering the sunflowers and tomato plants regularly and carefully separating the tomato seedlings, showing a growing understanding of the natural world and how to look after living things.
