Owls Home Learning 19.7.21

Good morning Owls,

Login to Google classroom to view today’s tasks. There are no live sessions this morning but plenty of online tasks for you to access.

Todays learning is as follows:

Phonics: Our sound today is ‘cious and tious’.

1. Watch the video to learn todays sound.

At the end can you hold a sentence – Mam baked us a delicious cake

2. Play buried treasure on the phonics play website. Select phase  5.

3. Perhaps you could read some of your reading book if you have it at home or use the Oxford Owl link below to find a book you would like to read from your book colour band.

4. Lastly why not use our finger fitness video and get your fingers warmed up for writing today.

English – Spellings – Tricky words.
We won’t be doing a spelling test this week as it is the last week of term. Could you instead use some of the words from last week’s spellings and include them in a sentence. See if you can write 3 different sentences for the words;

* saw
* were
* because

Main – Words within words.
Lat week we looked at how we could make a list of the words we could find inside a longer word.
Can you remember the rules?

1. We can only use the letters that are in the word.
2. We can only use a letter once.

For example the word sandcastle is quite a long word & there are lots of vowels in it. This is good as it means we will be able to make lots of words. (sand, castle, and, cast, last etc.)

Task – Click onto the power point below. There are several longer words for you to use. Choose one of the words and write it down. Then write a list of the words you can make from it. Remember to only use the letters in that word. Now try another word.

Maths: Speed Calc – Can you answer the addition and subtraction questions?

1. 12 + 7 =
2. 9 + 8 =
3. 6 + 5 =
4. 7 + 6 =
5. 20 – 6 =
6. 15 – 7 =
7. 10 – 8 =
8. 18 – 9 =

Main – Can I solve addition and subtraction sums?
Today we are going to recap on our addition and subtraction skills. I have a few different maths games for you to play which will help support your mathematical skills.

Task –
1.) Can you play robot addition. Click on addition up to 20 and try to match the sums to the totals.
2. Number fact families. Click on up to 20. Can you use the digits given to create fact families for each number.
3. Post sorting. Click on  numbers within 20. Can you post the sums into the correct letterboxes.
4. Funk mummy. Click on up to 20. Can you solve each?

I have also uploaded a dice addition game for you to play. Can you roll a dice three times and write the numbers down to make an addition sum. (If you don;t have a dice in the house perhaps you could use an online dice.) Then use your maths skills to solve each sum.

Science – What is a pond?

1. Look at video clip below of a pond habitat. The video starts above the pond. What pond plants can you see? It then moves onto under the surface of the pond. What animals and plants can you see now?

2. Watch the BBC clip on pond habitats to learn what it is.

3. The next BBC clip is showing us what type of animals can be found when you go pond dipping.

4. Look through the pond power point. Look at the example of a pond cross section on the last page. Discuss with your grown up what you can see.

Task – Can you draw a cross section of a pond. Look at the final link to see an example of a cross section. (It shows a pond and some of the different plants and animals you might find inside it. What animals and plants could you draw? Can you label each object you add to your pond?
