As part of our climate-change project with Beamish Museum, Year 4 welcomed Helen into school to talk about the industrial history of Gateshead, and about carbon capture and offset in the 21st Century.
The children learned all about how our local area became a thriving area of coal mining, the changes this brought and how this and other industries have caused greenhouse gases to affect our climate.
We studied maps, scientific data, old photographs and even played a climate game!
Helen then invited us to come to Beamish to learn more about carbon footprint and to plant trees in order to attempt to help our local environment and the planet.
