Exploring Observational Art Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe
This week, our young artists have been diving into the world of observational drawing and painting, taking inspiration from the stunning close‑up flower works of Georgia O’Keeffe. The children discovered that some artists don’t draw what they think something looks like, they draw exactly what they see. Together, we examined her artwork, noticing how she focused on tiny details, delicate shapes, and vibrant colours. Using these ideas, the children created their own spring‑themed pieces, carefully observing real objects and translating what they saw onto paper. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as they experimented with careful looking, expressive mark‑making, and new artistic techniques. Their finished artworks are a beautiful celebration of spring and creativity.
