This week, Nursery enjoyed two fantastic Outdoor Days on Thursday and Friday, making the most of the warm weather and learning in the natural environment. The children lay on their backs looking up at the sky and used an I Spy Nature identifying frame to spot and talk about different types of clouds. They showed great creativity while making nature crowns and enthusiastically took part in a scavenger hunt around the outdoor area. Everyone enjoyed having snack time outside instead of indoors, and we also had our special treat and drink outdoors together. In maths, the children made a delicious summer fruit salad using raspberries, grapes, blueberries, bananas, apples, kiwis and oranges. They carefully halved the fruit while discussing its size, texture and colour, and followed instruction cards to complete each step independently before enjoying the fruit salad together. We also continued to check and care for our ever-growing sunflower plants and potted more tomato plants, which will be for sale outside nursery next week. Using the interactive whiteboard, the children worked together to order the life cycle of a sunflower, discussing each stage from seed to fully grown flowering plant and showing a good understanding of how plants grow and change over time. During our phonological knowledge session, we focused on the sound ‘l’, listening for it in words and practising saying it confidently through a range of fun activities.
